10 – 17 February: Egyptian Delegation Arrives in Tripoli to Reopen Embassy

This week Egypt and Russia sought to consolidate relations with Libya’s newly elected executive authority.

On 8 February, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, spoke to the new Prime Minister designate for Libya, Abdul Hameed Dabaiba, and the new President of the Presidency Council, Mohammed Menfi. In his phone calls, Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to work constructively with the new executive authority.

On 15 February, an Egyptian delegation arrived in Tripoli to explore the reopening of the Egyptian embassy in the Libyan capital. The embassy is alleged to be returning to normal operations by providing consular service to Libyan citizens, including the granting of entry visas to Egypt. On 16 February, the Egyptian delegation was welcomed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashaagha.
