News emerged this week that the HoR is set to formalise Haftar’s role even further by appointing him as Commander in Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces. According to various sources, including one unnamed Minister in Al-Thinni’s government, the HoR has already decided on the appointment and is intending to announce it very soon.

The move has not gone down well with all parts of the House. A group of 30 MPs sent a letter to the head of the House, Aqeela Saleh, this week making it clear that they do not support Operation Dignity or any military operation that “takes place outside of the authority of the army and that doesn’t take instructions from the House of Representatives.” There is still a lot of suspicion towards Haftar with many Libyans fearing that his ultimate aim is to become Libya’s “new Qadhafi”.
