5 – 11 June: Three-year sentence for “Returnees from Libya” case

On 10 June, an Egyptian court has sentenced Mohammed Farouk and Ashraf al-Sayyed to three years in jail in what has been dubbed the “Returnees from Libya” case, with the convicted accused of participating in terrorism outside of Egypt and seeking to launch attacks within. The two are alleged to have undergone military training by al-Qaeda in Libya and were later arrested in February 2015 following their return from the country.
