Action – 15 June 2015

Jun 15, 2015 | ISIS

IS made further gains in Sirte this week, taking control of a power plant to the west of the town on 9 June. Like the Al-Gharabiya air base that the group took a few days earlier, IS was able to seize control of the facility as a direct result of the withdrawal of Misratan forces around the same time. Despite fears that IS would set its sights on the Oil Crescent and on the oil terminals at Ras Lanuf and Sidra to the east of Sirte, the group has continued pushing westwards towards Misrata, taking control of Bouyrat, which is 78 km west of Sirte and close to Abu Ghrayn, considered as the eastern entrance to the town.
