The anti-crime department of Misrata published a video ‘confession’ of an ISIS member named ‘Hisham al-Oakley’, who revealed details of the beheading of 20 Egyptian Coptic Christians and an African in 2015. Al-Oakely gave a detailed description of how the beheading operation was prepared as well as the names and nationalities of others who were involved and the video recording methods used to document it. The anti-crime department investigation unit had apparently extracted the confessions after capturing al-Oakely during the al-Bunyan al-Marsus operation against ISIS in Sirte in 2016. On 7 October, the Misrata anti-crime department had found and exhumed the remains of the beheaded victims from South Sirte after discovering their whereabouts from the investigations.

On 6 December, two men were arrested in Sirte for cooperating with ISIS. The two men are now imprisoned in Misrata.

On 10 December, the Derna Mujahideen Shura Council (DMSC) undertook a raid on an ISIS cell in Derna that concluded with the arrest of the entire cell and the death of ISIS member Mohamed Fathi al-Jamayel. The details surround al-Jamayel’s death are conflicting, with reports suggesting he was either shot or blew himself up. Al-Jamayel joined ISIS in 2015 and had spent time with the group in both Sirte and Derna. The raid followed a failed assassination attempt on Moaz Tashani, a DMSC member, by detonating a bomb under his car.
